Repetitive Strain Injury (upper limb injury) is an injury that occurs from repetitively performing some movement. Such a repetition can cause nasty injuries, especially if there is a high number of movements and such movements are without adequate variation.

Repetitive strain cases normally occur in the workplace and the case is taken against the employer. Employers owe a duty to employees to ensure that reasonable steps are taken to ensure that an employee is not tasked with such repetition. If repetitive movements are involved, care should be taken by the employer to reduce the risk of injury; such as varying the tasks, reducing the number of repetitions per hour, or otherwise improving the ergonomics of the workstation.

Debilitating injuries can result from such poor practices. Typically, employees attend a neurosurgeon / neurologist for medical treatment and analysis; often the injury is to the arm, hand, wrist and shoulders.
