Medical negligence cases against medical consultants and GPs arise typically due to a failure to refer a patient for further and proper medical investigations or due to misdiagnoses. For example, a consultant or GP might fail to appreciate the patient’s medical history and, as a result, prescribe inappropriate medication (or carry out a procedure which is contra-indicated).
